Hong Kong schools are expected to provide educational VR contents to students

“Boldly go where no men can go before.” Only until recently, it was unimaginable that a student can experience the thrill and danger at the peak of Mont Blanc in Italy, visit a Van Gogh museum in Paris and arrive in JFK International Airport in New York City, all in the time of only one morning class session. Mr. Ko Ping Yeung, Chief Operating Officer of VR Educate Limited, oversees the development, strategic planning and accelerates implement of the VR technology in education. Besides, he also manages the company’s finance and operations.

He graduated from University of Wisconsin with Bachelor of Fine Arts and furthered his Master of Arts in Southern Illinois University. He is an over 35-year veteran in content services, including channel operations and channel localization. He worked as the Producer of HKTVB’s Pearl Channel and promoted to Programme Director. In 1993, he was the Channel Director of HK Cable TV, successfully applied for the grants of 12 channels within 6 months. During 2000 to 2002, he worked as Vice President of Phoenix Satellite TV and successfully launched the Info News Channel (round the clock - 24 hour news). Mr. Ko joined Promo Group TV in 2003 and has been its Company Director ever since.

Mr. Erwin Huang, Chairman of VR Educate Limited – Consultative Group (VR ECG), is responsible to foster the interest in schools, enhance VR eLearning and maintain VR technology as a school-friendly basis. To held regular reviews and meetings with the VR ECG members, IT experts and educationalists on contents and teaching aids for each piece of VR experience. He is a serial entrepreneur and a leader in a social enterprise, the eLearning field and advisor to numerous startups more than 20 years. Currently, he is Senior Advisor - Center for Education Innovation of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, President of Hong Kong Information Technology Federation (HKITF), one of the largest and respected ICT associations of HK and also chairs the eLearning Consortium, which is instrumental in driving Hong Kong’s eLearning initiative in education reform and using the power of big data to show the students possibilities. He is Deputy Chairman of Junior Achievement Hong Kong, dedicated to inspiring and preparing young leaders to succeed in a global economy thru entrepreneurship. He co-founded and current serve as Vice Chair ‘Senior Citizen Home Safety Association’ and invented the “Elderly Bell”. He is also the Founder of Agent of Change ‘加油香港’, a young social enterprise aiming at provision of low-price high-quality daily necessities to grassroots and Evangelist of WebOrganic, a social enterprise under HK Council of Social Services designed to help deprived students for digital inclusion and eLearning. In 2009, after joined the role playing of RTHK TV program ‘Rich Mate Poor Mate’, Erwin gained the new insights of poverty and created a range of projects to help the poor after participating in a reality TV show. As a visionary and entrepreneur, he actively engaged in social entrepreneurship with a view to bridging social needs through innovation and information technology. In 2013, he was elected as Hong Kong Spirit Ambassador.
